“Karl Haendel: High Performance Stiffened Structures” is one of two exhibitions presented by Locust Projects in celebration of its 15th anniversary. On this occasion, Haendel presents various synchronized projectors that continuously project more than 10,000 slides. Each of these slides contains an image that represents a drawing or is an idea for future drawings. These images projected on the walls have such an impact on viewers that it forces them to make semiotic associations by calling upon their own experience and visual reference.

We live in a universe saturated by images, and the artist reminds us of this in his project. Haendel, better known for his installations of enormous pencil drawings that explore human contradictions like anxiety and power, on this occasion presents a kind of intimate visual archive that he has organized into categories such as:  Local Churches, Ampersands, Babies Crying and Terrorism.
