In this exhibition, Maggie Taylor combines history and imagination to create works that exude an air of surrealism. A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Taylor lives and works at her studio in Gainesville, Florida, with her husband, photographer Jerry Uelsmann. Taylor incorporates imagery into her works inspired by daguerreotypes of the 16th century, toys and found objects, acquired at flea markets or on eBay, which she scans and manipulates digitally in Photoshop. Her oeuvre has evolved from still lifes and landscapes of special significance to these new works she has been developing for the past six years.
Taylor retains elements from the original images but transforms their meaning in a sophisticated, fascinating and mysterious fantasy. This exhibition constitutes a retrospective of her oeuvre and coincides with the publication of her book No Ordinary Days. Through April 20th, 2013.
