Ninety rare and vintage prints from the golden age of French photography (1900-1940) are on display in the exhibition “French Twist: Masterworks of Photography from Atget to Man Ray.” All the works are from the collection of Michael Mattis and Judith Hochberg. The exhibition, organized by art2art Circulating Exhibitions, is on view at the Patty & Jay Baker Naples Museum of Art.

The photographs brought together in this exhibition range from the lyrical architectural views of Eugène Atget to the surrealist inventions of Man Ray and Dora Maar. Major figures in the history of photography such as Jacques-Henri Lartigue, with his boyish wonder, and Brassaï, with his twilight-inspired moodiness, are also included. From the elegant still lifes of André Kertész to the sophisticated street theater of Henri Cartier-Bresson and Ilse Bing, all major facets of French photography, and consequently much of the most influential photography produced in an era when the medium struggled to be appreciated as art, are surveyed and celebrated. “French Twist” is a unique opportunity to see all these masterworks together in one exhibition.
