Elaborated Minimalism at Zadok Gallery
Through May 31, 2010
The artwork of Luca Artiolo, Stephen Gamson, and Yom are presented together in the group exhibition “Minimalism in the Line” at the Zadok Art Gallery. The exhibition runs from March 1 through May 31 and includes painting, sculpture, and architectural photography.
Luca Artioli uses film photography, generally with lengthy or multiple exposures. His photographs focus on the spatial realities and special beauty of Art Deco architecture in Miami.
Reminiscent of the paintings of Keith Haring, Stephen Gamson delivers simplified images. Pared down to the most basic form, a single hued shape, Gamson’s painting are able to focus on the messages they present.
Yom creates sculptures that begin with rather simple shapes: cube, egg, ball, but through addition and subtraction he alters these shapes. The results are sculptures that look different from each vantage point and offer the viewer many different points of penetration.
Together the artists are meant to represent three very different approaches to using the simplicity of shape and form to powerful effect. “Minimalism in the Line” is a tribute to all the artists since the beginning of the twentieth century who have advocated the use of simple forms and shapes to translate an elaborate message.
