This exhibition gathers a collection of more than 100 photos taken by Spanish photographer Cristina García Rodero that document her journey of four years in Haiti. These graphic series, debuted first at the 2001 Venice Biennale and are the result of her documentation of the pilgrimages, traditions and practices related to voodoo rituals, featuring the human connection to the spiritual world. García Rodero focuses her research on human behavior and its relation with both old ceremonies and the conflicts that characterize the present.

“Rituales en Haiti” is the first major solo museum show of García Rodero, a Magnum Photo and Vu Agency photographer in the United States. Her groundbreaking work and expansive career has celebrated and mystified the universe within religious ceremonies in Haiti, as well as festivals both religious and pagan throughout India, Spain, Mediterranean Europe and the United States. Her approach to these events is not a simple observation of expressive and photogenic sceneries, it is a sociological investigation of humanity from a sensible and informed eye.

García Rodero’s work has been included in exhibitions in venues throughout the world, including MoMA PS1, New York; the Museo del Prado, Madrid; the Venice Biennale; the Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao; the Bogota Museum of Modern Art; and the Henri Cartier-Bresson Foundation, Paris.
