“Mary Cassatt: Works on Paper,” is on view at the Boca Raton Museum of Art from January 20, 2010 through April 11, 2010. The exhibition features more than 40 drawings and prints. These works display the range of the artist’s creative process and add to the understanding of her innovative approach.

The American Impressionist Mary Cassatt, who lived from 1844 - 1926, was captivated by the challenges and artistic possibilities of making prints. These efforts were a central part of her oeuvre as a draughtsman, enabling her to focus on the essentials of form, gesture, and expression. With the recent discovery of Cassatt’s counterproofs, the full scope of her experimentation in the graphic media can be put into perspective.

Mary Cassatt: Works on Paper” has been organized by Adelson Galleries, New York and catalogued by Marc Rosen and Susan Pinsky for the Boca Raton Museum of Art. “Mary Cassatt: Works on Paper” features etchings, aquatints, monoprints, rare counterproofs, and important drawings dealing with some of the artist’s most central themes: the place of women in society and unsentimental representations of women with children.
