Art Rouge Gallery is presenting a selection of works by Laurie Recanati. The exhibition, “Metamorphosis,” is on view from February 11 - March 12, 2010.
Recanati, who lives and works in Israel, creates playful work that investigates how time and emotion can be symbolized by objects. She has undertaken numerous public commissions across Israel. Her mosaics can be seen in hospitals, schools, gardens and offices across the country. The work includes fountains, panels, flooring, furniture and sculptures.
Recanati’s work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and is in numerous private and public collections; most recently the work was on view at Sculpt Miami and the West Palm Beach Art Fair. Much of her work has been created in response to her feelings towards our disposable society. If an object is slightly damaged, it is thrown away rather than repaired and then quickly replaced. Materials such as broken china and old teapots, shattered bus shelter glass and buttons are all incorporated into her work. By adorning discarded, functional objects, she aims to transform the readymade, pushing “junk” into a fine art context.
