The 16 pieces in this exposition comprise part of the portfolio Heightened Perspectives: Marilyn Bridges, created by this American artist in the 1980s. This selection of works constitutes a visual account of an important decade within her almost 40-year career.

The pieces presented are aerial photographs taken by the artist through the open doors of a single-engine plane, flying at an altitude of 500 to 1000 feet. An art critic who was invited to accompany Bridges on one of her flights later described her as “the Indiana Jane of landscape photography,” as he witnessed her “hanging out of open airplane doors and windows, suspending herself over space, shooting landscapes from above.”

The portfolio exhibited at the Boca Museum offers a collection of interesting shots of urban and rural landscapes in which the photographer captures identifiable details from each scene, while at the same time revealing the magic of the vast universe that can be contained in a bird’s eye view.
